Biopsy: What happens next

A couple of months ago I noticed what I thought was a pimple or ingrown hair on my chest, up near my left shoulder. I squeezed it.

And squeezed it.

And squeeeeeeeeeeeeeezed it.

I finally got a little blood out, but could never force the core out. I grew frustrated and took it as a personal challenge. Then I grew bored and distracted and moved on to other parts of my life. The "pimple" chuckled in triumph.

Two months later it registered on my consciousness that the "pimple" was still with me. That struck me as terribly odd, as I am a very fast healer. I haven't had so much as a cold in the last two years. I really don't get sick, and minor cuts fade in a couple of days.

Clearly this was no ordinary pimple.

Fortunately, I had a regularly scheduled check-up with my doctor that week. So after the routine, I pointed it out to him. He immediately called for a biopsy. Not because he saw something in it that threw up red flags, but because anything that takes two months to heal should probably be looked at, he said.

The next day I returned to his office and he cored out a bit of my body about the size of a pencil eraser. When he showed it to me, my first thought was discgusting: I wondered what it would taste like. My second thought was a more sensible: Just be an ingrown hair.

So now I wait for the results. I don't expect it to be cancer, because, like I said, I don't get sick. Hell, I survived the AIDS explosion when there was no information about protection, and less societal concern since the only segment being affected was the throw-away population. So no, it won't be cancer. But I do wish the results would hurry up and arrive to confirm what I already know.
